EDI for Container Depots — CODECO, CEDEX and DESTIM Explained

EDI messages let you exchange data with carriers and port systems in a structured format. At depots, the names you'll hear most are CODECO, CEDEX and DESTIM (in UN/EDIFACT environments and variants depending on the agreement).

CODECO

COntainer COmmercial: commercial information about the container (events, status, logical location in messages). In practice, CODECO is used to report status and relevant commercial movements for equipment interchange.

CEDEX

CEd EXchange: interchange messages for the container (interchange events in the sense of a chain of custody). Useful when the interchange agreement requires explicit notification.

DESTIM

DEstination STIM (depending on implementation): estimate or destination in planning flows; the exact detail depends on the message profile your partner requires.

Important: every carrier publishes its own implementation guides; there's no single universal "DESTIM" without reading the agreed profile.
